Mr. Herrin’s class has spent the past few weeks exploring the life cycle of chickens and learning all about embryo development. We studied how embryos grow, how eggs are fertilized, and even discovered some fun facts—did you know there are over 1,600 chicken breeds around the world? The students were thrilled to find out they’d be helping raise chicks right in the classroom! Today, we moved our newly hatched chicks out of the incubators—check out these adorable photos! 🐣

We are excited to share with you that on Friday, May 2 all MMJH students will be attending a field trip to the UIUC-Prairie Research Center. The students will leave at 8:05am and return at 12:30pm. All students should dress for the weather (currently there is no rain and temps look moderate) and wear appropriate shoes for walking around the exhibits for the day. Students will be assigned small groups with staff chaperones for supervision and logistical purposes. Water stations will be available, but students must have their own water bottles to refill as cups will not be available. Please leave expensive Stanley's, Yetis, and the like at home. Snacks will be provided, and lunch will be served when we return. Any student that is late and misses the bus will have supervision at school to work on assigned tasks from their teachers. We are excited to share this opportunity with our students! Follow the link for information about the exhibits available. https://expo.prairie.illinois.edu/ Please reach out to Mrs. Miller (mmiller@gobuffaloes.org) with any questions or concerns.
